Are there any evergreens you recommend for Southern California?

Junipers and cedars are good choices for your area.

I love First Edition’s Sky High Juniper for tough sites. It tolerates poor soil and matures 12-15’, zone 3-7. If you decide to go with something smaller, take a look at Chapel Hill Cryptomeria. It’s a beautiful evergreen and matures 5-10’, zone 6-9. Also, check out the California Native Plant Society tree list and your local garden center for other recommendations.
