Are my COPPERTONE DISTYLIUM and beautyberry plants supposed to lose their leaves?

Oh no! The Coppertone Distylium should definitely have leaves.

The beautyberry loses its leaves in the winter. If the stems are light brown, they are probably gone. New plants do need water - even in the fall and during dry winters. You could leave them in place and hope for signs of life in the spring.
