Can I plant an Azalea in a container?

That’s a great question and a little bit tricky to answer! Azaleas would definitely be best in the ground year round.

The roots will be better protected in the winter and the plants will have a bit more room to grow.

However, if you see one at the garden center full of flowers and want to put it on the front porch or patio for spring, go ahead and do it! It will be just fine. When it’s finished flowering and before it gets too hot, I'd recommend planting it in your garden.

Thanks for writing!
