Summer Cascade Wisteria is a North American species. That means you don’t have to worry about it being invasive and taking over the garden or the neighborhood. You can prune it immediately after it blooms or wait until the end of winter. With unruly branches, it’s ok to cut them back to a few inches from the stem. It’s important to give wisteria strong support as the trunks can become large. To avoid having lush leaves and no flowers, stay away from high nitrogen fertilizer. Give it a good sunny place by your pergola and it should be quite beautiful.
