Lagerstoemias may die-back to the ground following a cold winter. Or, when the winter is mild, they can leaf out almost to the end of the branches. The hard part is waiting to see what will happen. You should see new leaves and some healthy buds now. If the tops are dead, go ahead and cut them back some. In a week or two, you will know if you need to cut them back further. The nice thing about the Magic crape myrtles is that they will quickly put on new growth so you don’t have to worry about pruning too much.
