Pruning at the wrong time runs the risk of cutting off the flower buds. Something else to watch out for is using a fertilizer that is high in nitrogen. Your hydrangea will have lovely leaves but no flowers. Hydrangeas need a fertilizer with a higher P (phosphorous) in the NPK ratio. Also, be certain to give them plenty of sun and water.
