I'm losing a rhododendron. It's in partial shade with southwest exposure. Would a weigela do better in this spot?

What a bummer!

Absolutely, a weigela is a much better option than a rhododendron. Both Shining Sensation and Rainbow Sensation will do well, are easy to grow and have pretty flowers and foliage. Plus, you will have hummingbirds and butterflies visit the garden. And, don’t forget about hydrangeas. This spot also sounds great for an oakleaf or paniculata. Have you seen Diamond Rouge? Wow!
