Is it normal for Amber Jubilee to lose their leaves this early in the fall?

Usually, ninebarks hold their leaves well into fall.

I wonder if the shock of going from the nursery and into the ground has stressed it a little bit. New plants in the fall don’t need as much water as newly planted ones in late spring and summer. I would just make sure it gets a good, thorough watering once a week with either rainwater or from a hose. You don’t want the ground to be mushy. As long as the branches and leaf buds for next year look healthy, there should be no need to worry. Be sure to mulch well for winter.
