Is it possible that my Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea Tree is a slow budder?

Good question!

A plant from a nursery will generally be farther along with buds and flowers than one that overwintered in the garden. The plants at the nursery have better-growing conditions including protection from winter’s cold temperatures. However, you can encourage your hydrangea to produce flower buds with a fertilizer that has a higher potassium number. It’s the P on the NPK ratio.

Thanks for writing!
