Is it safe to transplant potentilla in September?

Potentilla is a very tough plant and can take a lot of abuse.

If you take care with replanting, you can move them now. Cutting them back first is a good idea. Be sure to pack in the dirt around the roots so as not to leave any air pockets. Water well and mulch. This will help keep the roots from freezing this winter. If you want to play it safe, wait until next spring when the risk of freezing night temperatures is over. Our planting and care guide has great tips.
