My camellia is really damaged from a severe winter. Can I cut it back?

Winter damage is no fun!

If you are a gutsy gardener and the shrub has been in the ground for a few years, you can cut it way back. As long as there are established healthy roots, the camellia will push new growth. Maybe cut it back to about 2’ tall. Be prepared for fewer blossoms next year. After a severe pruning, the camellia’s energy will be simply in growing. Look for flower buds and flowers in the following years.
