My Diamond Rouge Hydrangeas turned brown, defoliated, and are now growing again. Is something wrong?

It sounds like they are recovering from the shock of going from the nursery to their new home in the garden.

At the nursery, they were used to being watered every day. And, when the leaves turned brown, it was a sign they needed more water. It’s good that the Diamond Rouge’s are putting on new growth. Next year will be easier as the roots will have grown and there won’t be such a pressing need for extra water. Our planting and care guide has good tips for taking care of them rest of this year and overwintering.
