What do I feed a newly planted hydrangea?

It isn’t always best to pour on the fertilizer with newly planted shrubs.

For the first year, you really want to grow roots to help get the plant established and help it survive extreme changes in the weather. And, compost in the spring will help with that. To grow flowers, look for a fertilizer with a higher middle number (NPK), phosphorous and follow the directions on the label.
