Though it might be shady by the house, by the time you dig out a garden bed, you may find that you have part shade. This gives you more options for plants. Electric Lights Azaleas, Double Pink or Red, will be a good choice for a place where you want a taller shrub. They have early spring flowers. I have Cool Splash Diervilla growing in a part shade place in my garden with a white hydrangea next to it. It’s a beautiful combination and really brightens up the garden. Pink Sparkler Spirea grows well in part shade and has pretty golden leaves and pink flowers. For an evergreen, try Chapel View Cryptomeria.
