Let’s start with the old flowers. You can leave them on for winter interest in the garden. Or, you can snip off the flowers. Either one is fine. As for hard pruning to prepare for spring, there is a fine line between late winter and early spring! I wait for a nice day in February or March to clean up my shrubs for spring. And, I try to get it done before they start leafing out. Watch my video for tips on how to prune hydrangeas.
